“Something From Nothing: The Art of Rap” Now Available To Pre-order on iTunes

Following successful theatrical runs in the US and UK, Ice-T’s widely praised feature documentary, “Something From Nothing: The Art of Rap,” is now available to pre-order on iTunes (www.itunes.com/ArtOfRap). The iTunes version of the film will be available for download on September 18 and includes an exclusive outtake featuring Public Enemy’s Chuck D. Since its premier at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival, the film has won raves from hip-hop specialists and more mainstream media alike. “Rap is an American art form and it needs respect,” Ice-T said in a recent interview with Hip-Hop Weekly. “I wanted to do a film that makes people totally understand how great it is to me. Rap saved my life. So I called my friends up and asked if they’d be in my movie: ‘I’m not gonna ask you about the money, the cars, the jewelry, the beef. I just wanna ask you about the craft.’ It was a labor of love.”

Having followed ICE-T (Tracy Morrow) for the last 15 years, I’m very proud that he’s using his current high level of celebrity to create and produce documentaries like “Something from Nothing: The Art of Rap.” ICE-T is a very unique and real personality in that he speaks from the Heart and expresses in all that he does (TV Acting; Law & Order), Cable reality show (Ice Loves Coco), Concerts, Book promoting, etc…. that one can still be real and DOWN to EARTH despite the high level of success achieved. I recall numerous years ago the time when his Body Count rock group was under fire for their “Cop Killer” song received a high level of criticism leading to their Record Company at the time (Time Warner) to be accountable for releasing and backing the tune. Highly respected retired actor; Charleston Heston, who as an Time Warner stock holder even spoke at a news conference condemning the Cop Killer tune, where he even read and mocked some of the lyrics – What struck me as typical Hollywood establishment was that, Charleston Heston being so out of touch from reality on an issue that he knew very little about, was that he got as involved as he did. Ice-T’s response was that Charleston should have questioned “Why such a tune as “Cop Killer” was written in the first place? As opposed to criticizing a song he did not understand!
Being a minority myself, I noticed at a very young age that the Policing authorities I grew around always seemed to view minorities as “suspect” even when simply walking down the street or driving by in a nice vehicle. I guess that’s just the way it is, right or wrong! Kudos to Ice-T, who we all know is not a Perfect individual, as none of us are, but he continues the support and pay homage to what lead him to become the person he is today.
