Bernard Hopkins: Execution and Evolution
Constant evolution is a part of life. Accordingly, plenty has changed for North Philadelphia ex-con/turned fighter and entrepreneur, Bernard “The Executioner” Hopkins since he graced the cover of DUB five years back. Hopkins, the first fighter to retain all four major championship belts in his former middleweight division, has surely gained exponential wealth.
Dwight Howard
“We’ve never had a guy this tall who could jump like this. This guy is flat out scary!” When someone describes a basketball player in such reverential tones, you know he is something special. But when the person saying it is hoops legend Charles Barkley, and the player being described is NBA superstar Dwight Howard, there is no choice but to admit you are witnessing a performance that no other big-man in history could ever accomplish. And at that point, in the 2008 Slam Dunk Contest, the 6-foot-11-inch Orlando Magic center had not even unleashed his signature dunk, draped in the iconic red “S” and cape from the legendary comic book hero, which would compel NBA fans worldwide to refer to him as “Superman.”
Jason Ellis
Once pro skateboarding’s bad boy, Jason Ellis has turned over a new leaf as a radio show host, professional MMA athlete and an amateur boxer—and that’s not even including his other stints as a surfer, rocker, motocross racer, actor and potential professional truck racer, as well has a husband and father. However, there’s one thing Jason will forever be…badass! His I-don’t-give-a-f*ck attitude has stayed with him throughout the years, which could be one reason why his radio show, The Jason Ellis Show, on Fraction 28 (a Sirius Satellite Radio Station, XM 52) has quickly become one of the top-rated shows on Sirius in only its two years on air.
P-Rod
It’s a beautiful day in Encino, CA, and P-Rod is hyped for his DUB photo shoot even though it’s his third time gracing the pages of the magazine. First at his new store Primitive, then later at his private skate warehouse 15 minutes away. However, he’s not alone—he’s brought along his fiancé, up-and-coming fashion designer Rainbow Alexander, and his newest family addition, Heaven Love Rodriquez.
Chaz Ortiz
At 15, Chaz Ortiz is unlike regular teens his age…but don’t tell him that. He still thinks of himself as a regular 15 year old—just with a professional skateboarding career. With a breakout year in 2008, Ortiz pretty much knocked out skateboard heavyweights left and right at the 2008 Summer Dew Tour Skate Park Finals. He’s also one of P-Rod’s up-and-coming skateboarders to watch out for this contest season. He’s been skateboarding since he was six and landed his first endorsement deal in 2005, when the late-Zoo York pro and legend Harold Hunter spotted his talent.
Juan Pablo Montoya
NASCAR driver Juan Pablo Montoya is having an outstanding 2009 race season so far. Sponsored by Target (driving the No. 42 Target Chevrolet) and part of the Earnhardt Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates team, Montoya recently finished sixth at Infineon Raceway on June 21, 2009, after battling from the 17-starting spot in the first road course race of the season to earn his seventh top-10 finish for the year. He moved up two positions to 12th place in the NASCAR Sprint Cup standings, the cutoff for the “Chase” and is now ready to take on the rest of the races scheduled for the year head on.
Terry Kennedy
Last we saw Terry Kennedy, he was pushin’ a 2007 Cadillac EXT with the Zenetti Skate Team feature back in Issue 56. Since then, he’s moved on up in both the skate world and life. For starters, he traded in his EXT for a 2008 Mercedes-Benz SL550. “I didn’t want something with a lot of room ’cause I was tired of hauling my friends everywhere,” he says jokingly. “I needed a cool little car for me and a nice little hunny.” His choice of the SL was based upon the fact that he wanted to stand out and own a different Benz than his skater crew. “A lot of my friends have Benzes—Ryan [Sheckler] has the CL and Rob [Dyrdek] has the S550,”he explains.
Toyo Tires Driven to Perform: MMA Edition
DUB Magazine and Toyo Tires have teamed up to bring you the Toyo Tires “Driven to Perform” MMA Edition. Toyo Tires has been a proud sponsor of the UFC and supporter of mixed martial artists for several years. Read up on champions and legends in the sport, known as “The Spider,” “The Natural,” “Ace,” “The Prodigy,” “Sugar,” “The Axe Murderer” and “Rampage,” and why they are Driven to Perform each time they step into the Octagon.
Andrei Arlovski
At a prototypical 6-foot-4, 240 lbs., Andrei “The Pitbull” Arlovski is considered to be one of the top heavyweight mixed-martial arts (MMA) fighters in the world. A perfect combination of size, power, speed and skill make him one of the most intimidating fighters on the planet. But despite his imposing stature in the ring, his quiet and personable demeanor outside of it is the complete opposite.

Shaun White
Shaun White is definitely not your average athlete. While many perfect their skills at one sport, White keeps busy year round, either going for a back-to-back 1080 spin on the superpipe in Aspen or landing a gnarly backside 540 on vert ramp at Summer X Games.
