A Throwback to Open-Air Luxury: The BMW Concept Skytop Soars onto the Scene

The 2024 Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este witnessed a stunning unveiling from BMW: the Concept Skytop. This open-top coupe, based on the M8, throws it back to a bygone era of luxurious open-air motoring.

The Skytop cuts a striking figure with its dramatic shark nose and BMW’s iconic twin-kidney grille. Hints of the Z8 and 503 peek through in the design, creating a nostalgic yet modern silhouette. The exterior’s matte chrome paint complements the rich, reddish-brown leather interior, conjuring a distinctly 70s vibe. This retro feel carries over to the switchgear, which borrows heavily from the M8 donor car.

But the Skytop isn’t all about aesthetics. Under the hood lies the heart of a beast – the M8 Competition’s 617-horsepower 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine and drivetrain. This powerhouse promises exhilarating performance to match the Skytop’s head-turning looks.

While BMW hasn’t announced any production plans for the Skytop, it serves as a thrilling glimpse into the future of open-air luxury. This concept car is a surefire showstopper, leaving us wanting more from this potential M8 successor.
