IN SEARCH OF A LEGEND:

Last year’s 2019 Hot Wheels Legend Tour was epic with over 110,000 attendees, 18 finalists and one winner, The Nash! For 2020, the tour has gone virtual and DUB and Nitto Tires were lucky enough to co-host Round 6 of the live-streamed event.

MCd by Jarod DeAnda and co-hosted/judged by race car and stunt driver Colette Davis the virtual show consisted of a field of 20 submissions, guest appearances from industry icons Mister Cartoon and Mark Arcenal and a Q&A from a Hot Wheels fan! This round of judging also consisted of Hot Wheels Design Director Bryan Benedict, Hot Wheels designer Ralph Benitez, BMX Athlete/car enthusiast Coco Zurita and our very own Myles Kovacs. With a criteria of “authenticity” (Does it look like a Hot Wheels?), “creativity” (Does it stand out?) and “garage spirit” ( Built, not bought) the judges had a tough time picking from the impressive field of custom rides!

Legends Tour Round 6 Winner: 1958 Chevy Apache Jeffrey McHaddad

This Apache is an epic race truck built from the ground up, powered by a 1,000-hp TRIPLE turbo Chevy Cummins motor with a 6-speed paddle shift transmission. This race truck never leaves you wanting more because it’s got it all, from a completely custom-lengthened suspension to a body kit pulled from a Ford Mustang. This is one special build that now has the chance to become a Hot Wheels die-cast!

Mobil 1 Fan Favorite: 1973 BMW 2002

George’s build may be small but it sure packs a punch! George managed to fit an 800 HP S55 BMW motor into this little guy…now how’s that for garage spirit! We can’t turn our heads away from the gorgeous metallic blue paint job. Hot Wheels asked and fans answered, now this custom built 2002 now has a shot to become a Hot Wheels die-cast!

DUB Magazine Pick: 1973 Detomaso Pantera owned by Tony Ortiz

Myles surprised everyone with this pick and based pointed to its uniqueness and wheel fitment. “Overall I just think it’s an awesome build, it looks really cool and it didn’t really get any love from anyone else. I was surprised!” Tony’s build is definitely a head turner and be sure to look out for a full feature on our website and the magazine in the near future!

The Round 6 winner advances to compete with the rest of the tour winners for a chance to become a Hot Wheels die-cast toy! With only a few more stops on the Legends Tour, there’s still an opportunity to submit your custom ride!
