Ringbrothers, the globally acclaimed custom car builder and parts manufacturer has unveiled its latest masterpiece at the 2023 SEMA Show — a meticulously crafted 1965 Ford Mustang convertible named “UNCAGED.” This bespoke creation, conceived as a companion to its sibling “CAGED” introduced in August 2022, takes the evolution of Ford’s original pony car to new heights. Through a subtle reimagination of every line and proportion, “UNCAGED” maintains the classic design elements that have solidified the Mustang as one of America’s most iconic and coveted vehicles.
Originally a 1965 Ford Mustang convertible, “UNCAGED” is a complete transformation, with only the wheel center caps retaining their status as the sole remaining factory component. The body has undergone a discreet update, widening by an inch on both sides. Ringbrothers has meticulously crafted one-off pieces, including the iconic Mustang taillight bezels, side scoops, and running horse emblems, all redesigned for optimal proportion. The fenders seamlessly merge into the lowered and extended rocker panels, while the front bumper has been skillfully tucked and integrated into the entirely custom front valance. This holistic approach ensures a harmonious blend of classic aesthetics and contemporary innovation.

The exterior boasts a captivating BASF Glasurit “Burgundy Brave” finish, with all chrome and stainless-steel trim receiving a treatment of Cerakote Titanium C-105P. A redesigned front grille, set back by two inches, directs air to the heart of the beast—a Ford Performance 5.0-liter Coyote V8 crate engine, generating a formidable 460 horsepower at 7,000 RPM and 420 ft-lbs of torque at 4,600 RPM. Power flows seamlessly through Ford’s 10R80 10-speed automatic transmission.
The entirely bespoke bodywork showcases custom-built floor pans, seamlessly integrated with the Roadster Shop FAST TRACK chassis, forming a unique unibody that significantly elevates the driving experience. Handling prowess is delivered by Penske Racing Shocks RS Edition performance coilovers at the front and rear, an independent rear suspension, and a robust set of Baer Brakes providing authoritative stopping power. The Mustang hugs the road with confidence, thanks to Continental tires encasing distinctive 18-inch EVOD Industries wheels that echo the style of the iconic Rally wheels.

Inside UNCAGED, a fresh interior, envisioned by Sean Smith Designs and skillfully installed by Steve Pearson at Upholstery Unlimited, takes center stage. The cabin boasts custom instrumentation by Dakota Digital and a steering wheel designed to pay homage to the Mustang’s original interior. The result is a harmoniously styled cabin where the brightwork is refined and softened, simultaneously exuding aggression and grace.
“UNCAGED lives up to its name setting loose modern power and handling in a classic shape that looks at home on today’s streets,” said Ringbrothers co-owner Jim Ring. “Every aspect of this build has been thoroughly reimagined. It’s lower and meaner, a mix of tradition and modern carried throughout the bodywork and into the cabin.”
